Lukas Pfeil is a saxophonist and composer currently based in New York.
Born in Tuebingen, Germany, Lukas studied Jazz Saxophone Performance at the “Hochschule fuer Musik Koeln” in Cologne, Germany, with Prof. Wolfgang Engstfeld and Claudius Valk. He graduated in March 2013 with a perfect score.
In August 2013, he moved to New York to pursue a Master’s degree at Queens College with Prof.Antonio Hart in Jazz Performance and with Prof. Michael Mossman in Composition and Arrangement. He is studying on a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
Lukas has been a member of jazz combos and larger ensembles since his teenage years. He is a former member of the Detroit Civic Jazz Orchestra and the UK National Youth Jazz Orchestra. In 2010, he was selected to participate in the renowned “Generations”-Masterclass in Frauenfeld, Switzerland, where he studied with Eric Alexander, Harold Mabern and Adrian Mears. In 2012, he played with Peter Herbolzheimer’s “European Jazz Masterclass BigBand” led by John Ruocco and Erik van Lier. His teachers also include Helmut Mueller, Klaus Graf, Sebastian Sternal and David Berkman.
From 2010 to 2013, he taught at Cologne-based Jazz Music School “Offene Jazzhaus Schule”.
In August 2013, Lukas obtained the coveted DAAD-scholarship for musicians, allowing him to study at Queens College, NYC.
